The numbers beside a row list the runs of filled cells in it, left to right. 4 1 means four in a row, a gap, then one.

Column numbers work the same way, top to bottom. Every cell has to agree with both its row and its column.

Click to fill, click again to mark a cell definitely empty with a cross, once more to clear it. Drag to paint a run.

Filling a cell that should be empty counts as a mistake — nothing is revealed, so keep deducing. Clues fade when their line is done.
